Pierre leMoyne, Sieur D'Iberville founded the first permanent French settlement in Vieux Biloxi (known today as Ocean Springs, Mississippi) in 1699.
He was looking for the mouth of the Mississippi to connect to the Acadian (Canada) colonies and secure all the areas in between for France and King Louis XIV.
The purpose of the AATF is to promote and enhance the teaching of the French language and culture throughout Mississippi and the entire United States.

Mississippi was selected # 1 in Best Small Chapters by National. This was announced in the September Bulletin.
Information about the National French Exam 2012 is now available online. An order form is in the 2012 Le Grand Concours newspaper that National recently mailed out. Test dates for levels 01-5 are March 1-March 28, 2012.
The deadline for receipt of applications for summer scholarships is February 15.
The French Cultural Service is offering AATF members who teach at the K-12 levels scholarships for study in France during summer 2012. The programs provide intensive study of French language, teaching French, and modern French culture.
